Visual artist Ingrid Hernández was born in Tijuana, BC. She develops collaborative projects with migrants and communities that build irregular settlements, where she comes into contact with various speakers who make up the social fabric of these places. Her methodology starts from meeting and negotiating with these agents to work together for long periods. The result is embodied in work ranging from photography to social research. Her work has been exhibited in Mexico, Germany, France, Russia, the United States, Colombia and Guatemala. Hernandez has been a teacher, researcher and workshop leader in educational institutions and independent associations in Mexico, Bogota and New York. In the United States she was invited to give lectures and workshops, specifically for the Blaffer Art Museum of the University of Houston (2014), the California Institute of Arts (CalArts, 2006) and the Otis College of Art and Design in their master's program Public Practice (OTIS College, 2014). Hernández also operates the 3-year-old arts center Relaciones Inesperadas (Unexpected Relations). The center offers seminars and talks geared at Tijuana's expanding artist community in addition to a master's degree in Arts and Cultural Production.

Hernández desarrolla proyectos colaborativos con migrantes y comunidades que construyen asentamientos irregulares, donde entra en contacto con diversos locutores que forman el tejido social de estos lugares. Su metodología parte del encuentro y negociación con estos agentes para trabajar en conjunto por periodos prolongados. El resultado se materializa en productos que van de la fotografía a la investigación social. Ha expuesto en México, Alemania, Rusia, Estados Unidos y Colombia. Ha sido maestra, investigadora y tallerista en instituciones educativas y asociaciones independientes en México, Bogotá y Nueva York. En Estados Unidos ha sido invitada a impartir conferencias y talleres, específicamente en Blaffer Art Museum de la Universidad de Houston (2014), el California Institute of Arts (CalArts, 2006) y el Otis College of Art and Design en su programa de maestría Public Practice (OTIS College, 2014). Hernández es co fundadora y codirectora de Relaciones Inesperadas, espacio de arte que ofrece seminarios, conferencias, y programas educativos para artistas además de una maestría en Administración de Industrias Culturales y Creativas.
